A Run Off the Koyukuk
After an eight hour drive to Coldfoot, AK - I woke to my alarm and verified the time of sunrise, Truthfully I wanted to go back to sleep, it had been a late night watching the northern lights, but now dawn was approaching and I needed to find a good shot for the event. I saw the clouds and was hoping they wouldn't block the sunlight on the horizon. With 3 hours of sleep I grabbed my camera and moved inward off the road and towards the Koyukuk River. I was really looking forward to shooting Mt. Sukakpak in it's morning glory but the clouds and colors did not favor the mountain. To the north of it a smaller mountain reached up as if trying to divide the clouds. It was beautiful against a sky set on fire, and when I came up to an area of pooled water of the Koyukuk, I knew it was my shot.
