The Thirsty Moose
A long time dream of mine has been to photograph a moose at the edge of a pond. My lucky day came when I was on the outbound leg of my Denali National Park trip of 2013. My friend, a well experienced hunter spotted this beautiful bull moose rutting his way through the hills. We pulled the truck to the edge of the road and made our way in his direction. While calling to the moose with subtle grunts, we closed the distance between us. Peaking his interest, he began strutting towards us, rocking his antlers side to side. Having spotted a kettle pond, I aimed at putting the small body of water between us, hoping that he would make his way to the ponds edge. It worked, and I sat in the grass waiting. The moose, as if he knew what I wanted, was the perfect model. He stopped, looking out across at me while I captured the moments in excitement. It was quite the experience!
