A Run Off the Koyukuk
After an eight hour drive to Coldfoot, Alaska - I woke to my alarm and verified the time of sunrise, Truthfully I wanted to go back to sleep, it had been a late night watching the northern lights, but now Dawn was approaching, and I needed to find a good shot of the sunrise. With three hours of sleep, I grabbed my camera and moved inward off the road and towards the Koyukuk River. I was looking forward to shooting Mt. Sukakpak in its morning glory, but the clouds and colors did not favor the mountain. To the north of it, a smaller peak reached up as if trying to divide the clouds. It was impressive against a sky set on fire, and as I approached an area of pooled water, I knew it was my shot.
